About

Raja Man Singh I began the palace in the late sixteenth century, and later rulers added courtyards, gateways and halls until the court moved to Jaipur in 1727. Highlights include the painted Ganesh Pol gateway and the Sheesh Mahal, whose mirrored ceilings glitter in the smallest light, and the fort is part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan World Heritage Site.

Best time to go: Arrive at opening to beat the heat and crowds, and walk up the ramp rather than taking an elephant ride.
