About
Pir Sohawa sits on top of the Margalla Hills at more than 3,000 feet, geographically within Haripur District. It is about 17 kilometres from Islamabad and has grown quickly as an escape from the city. That growth has put pressure on national park land, so it is worth treading lightly. Snow is rare here, although a few inches fell in January 2012 after a gap of almost six years.
Best time to go: Drive up in the late afternoon for sunset, and avoid weekend evenings, when traffic on the hill road is heavy.
