About
Designed by the Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay, the Faisal Mosque takes its name from King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. Its eight-sided concrete shell recalls a Bedouin tent rather than a conventional domed mosque, and it ranks among the largest mosques in the world. Set at the foot of the Margalla Hills, it is the capital's most recognisable building and a landmark of modern Islamic architecture.
Best time to go: Visit in the late afternoon, when the hills behind turn golden; dress modestly and come outside prayer times.
