About
First built in the tenth century to calm the powerful tidal bore of the Qiantang River, the pagoda was rebuilt in the twelfth century. Its brick core is wrapped in wooden eaves that make it look taller than it is, and the gardens around it display models of famous Chinese pagodas.
Best time to go: Climb inside for views over the river, and visit during the autumn tidal bore season if you can.
