About

The basilica holds the Virgin of Zapopan, a small maize-paste figure revered across Jalisco. Each October a huge procession carries her from Guadalajara Cathedral back to Zapopan, while a small museum beside the church displays Huichol art and the busy plaza in front is lined with cafés.

Best time to go: Visit the plaza in the evening, when families gather, or in October to see the Virgin's great procession.
