About

The canyon plunges hundreds of metres below the city, carved by the Río Grande de Santiago. Viewpoints and parks along the rim, near the Guadalajara Zoo, give a sudden sense of wild landscape, and trails lead down towards the Cola de Caballo waterfall for those with energy to spare.

Best time to go: Go to the viewpoints at the edge of the city late in the afternoon, when the light deepens across the gorge.
