About
The Penang Botanic Gardens were laid out in 1884 on the site of an old quarry, with Charles Curtis as the first superintendent. That makes them one of the oldest botanic gardens the British created in a colonial settlement. Locals call them the Waterfall Gardens after a nearby cascade on Waterfall Road. The gardens are part of the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO.
Best time to go: Walk here early in the morning, when it is cool and the gardens are at their quietest.
