About
In the eighteenth century Carouge belonged to the Kingdom of Sardinia, whose rulers planned it as a rival to Protestant Geneva. Its low houses, shaded squares and inner courtyards feel more Piedmontese than Swiss, and today it is known for its artisans' workshops, cafés and markets.
Best time to go: Visit on a Wednesday or Saturday morning when the market fills the Place du Marché.
