About

Tajdit, a Berber word meaning new, is an Ibadi mosque in the Djerban countryside. Tradition holds that it was ordered by the second Rustamid imam, Abd al-Wahhab ibn Abd al-Rahman, with work beginning in the ninth century, although this has never been confirmed. A madrasa grew up around it, with buildings for lessons, students and teachers, and mounds of earth nearby still hint at them.

Best time to go: Go with a driver or guide, since it lies out in the countryside, and treat it as a quiet stop.
