About
The Mosque of the Turks, or Jemaa Ettrouk, was built in the sixteenth century on the orders of the caid Ghazi Mustapha Bey, in what was then Houmt Souk's Maltese quarter. Small compared with other mosques, it has plain white walls, a distinctive minaret, a large courtyard and a big cistern for rainwater. It first followed the Hanafi rite of the ruling Turkish families before changing to the Maliki rite.
Best time to go: See it on a walk through central Houmt Souk; visitors are welcome to look outside prayer times.
