About
Meninx lies on the south-eastern coast of Djerba, at the end of the old route linking the island to the mainland. It began as a Phoenician trading post and reached its height in the Roman period, when it was the administrative centre of the island. The site stretches for about two kilometres along the shore, partly lost to the sea, and urban life continued there until the sixth century.
Best time to go: Visit with a guide who can point out the remains, and pair it with the Roman causeway nearby.
