About

Ajim is a town and port on the south-western shore of Djerba and the island's main fishing harbour. It is also the closest town on the island to the African mainland, looking across the water to the coast. With some 24,000 residents at the 2014 census, it offers a working, everyday view of island life, well away from the resort hotels of the north-east coast.

Best time to go: Come in the morning to watch the fishing boats in the harbour.
