Über diesen Ort
Qutb ud-Din Aibak began the minaret around 1199 and his successor Iltutmish added further storeys, raising a tower of red and buff sandstone banded with Quranic inscriptions. The surrounding complex holds the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque, built partly from the stones of earlier temples, and a remarkable iron pillar that has barely rusted in some sixteen centuries.
Beste Besuchszeit: Visit in the soft light of late afternoon, when the carved sandstone glows and the crowds begin to thin.
