About
Commissioned after the emperor Humayun's death in 1556 and completed around 1570, the tomb sits at the heart of a formal charbagh garden divided by water channels. Its double dome, red sandstone and white marble set the template for later Mughal architecture, and a careful restoration has brought back the gardens, fountains and neighbouring tombs of the complex.
Best time to go: Arrive soon after opening to walk the gardens in cool morning air before tour groups arrive.
