About
The dam was completed in the late 1950s, flooding the upper Vltava valley near the Austrian border to create a long, shallow lake. Today its shores are South Bohemia's summer playground, with beaches, marinas and cycle paths, and in winter the surrounding hills turn to skiing and, in cold years, skating on the frozen water.
Best time to go: Go on a clear summer day for swimming, sailing or cycling along the shore, and bring a picnic.
