About

La Boca was settled by immigrants, many from Genoa, who built houses of corrugated iron and painted them with leftover paint from the shipyards. In the 1950s the artist Benito Quinquela Martín helped turn this lane into an open-air museum, and today its colourful facades, murals and tango performers make it one of the city's best-known sights.

Best time to go: Go in the daytime, stay on the main tourist streets, and look for tango dancers performing outside the cafés.
