About

Founded in 1927, Lone Pine began as a refuge for sick and orphaned koalas and now cares for well over a hundred of them. Visitors can also meet kangaroos and wallabies in an open reserve, and see platypuses, wombats, birds of prey and other native wildlife.

Best time to go: Arrive by the river cruise from the city for a relaxed journey, and plan around the keeper talks.
