About
Rising to around 5,800 metres, El Misti is an active stratovolcano that has shaped Arequipa's history and supplied the white sillar stone from which its centre is built. The Incas made offerings on its summit, and today experienced trekkers climb it, while everyone else enjoys its perfect cone from the city's viewpoints.
Best time to go: Admire it from the city at sunrise; climbing needs a guide, acclimatisation and at least two days.
