About
The Montaza estate was developed by Khedive Abbas II in the 1890s, and King Fuad later added the grand Haramlik palace, which blends Ottoman and Florentine styles. The palace itself is not open to visitors, but its large gardens of palms and pines, small beaches and the bridge out to a tea house on an islet make it a favourite escape for Alexandrians.
Best time to go: Come on a weekday afternoon to walk the gardens and the seafront promenade in relative calm.
