About

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was built between 1994 and 2007 and inaugurated in December 2007. It is the country's largest mosque and remains an active place of daily prayer. The complex covers more than 12 hectares, and its main axis is turned about 12 degrees south of true west. A smaller replica of the mosque stands in Surakarta in Indonesia. It welcomes visitors of all faiths outside prayer times.

Best time to go: Come in the late afternoon and stay into the evening, when the white domes are lit; dress modestly and cover arms and legs.
