The Kunsthaus spans art from the Middle Ages to the present, with particular strengths in Alberto Giacometti, Edvard Munch, Swiss painting and French Impressionism. A large extension by David Chipperfield opened in 2021 across Heimplatz, making it the country's largest art museum.
