Founded in the ninth century, the castle grew into a sprawling ensemble of palaces, churches and courtyards used by Bohemian kings, Holy Roman emperors and today's Czech presidents. Highlights include the Gothic Vladislav Hall in the Old Royal Palace, the Romanesque Basilica of St George and the tiny painted houses of Golden Lane.
