The present abbey was largely rebuilt by Henry III in the thirteenth century around the shrine of Edward the Confessor. It has hosted every coronation since William the Conqueror, and its tombs and memorials include Elizabeth I, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and the writers of Poets' Corner.
