Raqqada

نبذة

In the ninth century the Aghlabid dynasty built a second capital at Raqqada, about ten kilometres south-west of Kairouan. The site now houses the National Museum of Islamic Art. It makes a natural extension to a day in Kairouan, placing the monuments of the medina, from the Great Mosque to the Aghlabid Basins, within the wider story of the dynasties that ruled from this part of Ifriqiya.
