نبذة

Houmt Souk, whose name means the market quarter, is the main town of Djerba and its busiest. It is best known for its traditional souk and its fortress by the sea. The town grew on the site of the Roman city of Gerba, or Girba, birthplace of the emperors Trebonianus Gallus and his son Volusianus. Its lanes, markets and mosques make it the natural base for exploring the island.
