Shah Jahan's final great building, completed in 1656, stands on a rise opposite the Red Fort and is approached by broad flights of steps. Its vast courtyard can hold tens of thousands of worshippers at Eid, and the three marble domes and tall minarets look out over the dense lanes and bazaars of the old walled city.
