The present castle was built by the MacCarthy clan in the fifteenth century. Visitors climb to the battlements to lean back and kiss the Blarney Stone, said to grant the gift of eloquence, and the extensive grounds include a poison garden, rock close, woodland walks and a Victorian mansion.
