The cliffs were carved from volcanic rock that was quarried in the colonial era, when convicts cut stone here for some of Brisbane's early buildings. Today the clifftop park and riverside path are favourite spots for picnics and views, and the rock faces are one of the few urban climbing and abseiling sites of their kind.
