Opened in 1960, the aquarium was one of the largest in Europe at the time and is still one of Norway's most visited attractions. Its tanks draw seawater from deep in the fjord and hold fish and invertebrates from Norwegian waters, while outdoor pools house seals and penguins. The walk out along Nordnes, past old wooden houses, is part of the pleasure.
