The Grote Markt is framed by the sixteenth-century town hall, an influential blend of Flemish and Italian Renaissance design, and by tall guildhouses topped with gilded figures. At its centre, the Brabo Fountain shows the legendary hero hurling the hand of the giant Antigoon, a story often linked to the city's name.
