À propos
Tradition says the cemetery was built around soil brought back from Golgotha during the Crusades. Its long marble cloister was begun in the thirteenth century and lined with Roman sarcophagi and tombs. Its walls were painted with vast frescoes, including the celebrated Triumph of Death, which were badly damaged by fire in 1944 and have been painstakingly restored.
Meilleur moment pour y aller: Visit in the afternoon, when it is often calmer than the cathedral and tower next door.
