À propos
Officially the Plaza de la Constitución, the Zócalo sits over the ceremonial heart of Tenochtitlan and has been the stage for Mexican public life since the Spanish conquest. A giant national flag flies at its centre, and the square fills for concerts, protests and the Independence Day celebrations each September.
Meilleur moment pour y aller: Cross it early in the morning, when the square is at its emptiest and the cathedral facade catches the light.
