Built in 1734 by Sawai Jai Singh II as part of the city's defences, the fort was later extended with the Madhavendra Bhawan, a suite of apartments for the maharaja's queens linked by corridors. The painted rooms are worth exploring, but most visitors come for the views across the Pink City and the plain below as the lights come on.
