Completed in 1905 under Leopold II, the station building by Louis Delacenserie combines a lofty domed hall of marble and gilding with a vast iron and glass train shed. Its renovation in the early 2000s added tunnelled platforms on several levels, so trains now run beneath the historic hall, which remains one of the most beautiful in Europe.
