Begun in 1077 by Archbishop Gebhard, the fortress was expanded over centuries by the powerful prince-archbishops and was never taken by force. Inside are the richly decorated Princes' Chambers, a museum of the fortress and a large mechanical organ, while the ramparts overlook the old town and the Alps.
Mejor momento para ir: Take the funicular up early, then walk down via the Mönchsberg for the views.
