Founded in 1753 on the collection of the physician Sir Hans Sloane, the museum now spans two million years of human culture. Beneath the glass roof of the Great Court you can move between Egyptian mummies, the Assyrian reliefs, the Sutton Hoo treasure and the Lewis Chessmen.
