The Sarawak State Museum is the oldest museum in Borneo. It was founded in 1888 and opened in 1891 in a building designed for the purpose in central Kuching. More than a century on, the original building still stands in the heart of the city. It lies a short walk from the newer Borneo Cultures Museum, so the two are easy to see together, the old collection first and the modern galleries after.
