Once a quiet office district, Braamfontein has been revived by students from the University of the Witwatersrand and a wave of creative businesses. Its streets hold murals, independent shops, galleries and rooftop bars, and the cable-stayed Nelson Mandela Bridge links it with the cultural precinct of Newtown to the south.
