The Groeningemuseum gathers six centuries of Flemish and Belgian art, but its glory is the fifteenth-century work painted when Bruges was at its height. Jan van Eyck's Madonna with Canon van der Paele and paintings by Hans Memling and Gerard David show the astonishing detail of early oil painting.
