À propos

The Salimbeni family, wealthy medieval merchants and bankers, built their palace here in the fourteenth century. Since 1866 it has been the headquarters of the Monte dei Paschi di Siena, founded in 1472 and regarded as the oldest bank in the world still in business. The square in front was redesigned in the nineteenth century and centres on a statue of the economist Sallustio Bandini.

Meilleur moment pour y aller: Pass through Piazza Salimbeni on the walk up Banchi di Sopra, ideally in the evening light.
