A fortress on the Schlossberg withstood Napoleon's troops in 1809, but it was demolished under the peace terms. The citizens paid to save the Clock Tower and the bell tower, and today the hill is a park with terraces, cafés and views across the red roofs of the UNESCO-listed old town.
